1. Pain helps you grow. When we go through hard times and experience pain, we’re building up our character. Our character is, basically, the kinds of people we are. If we didn’t experience any kind of pain, what kind of person do you suppose we’d be? Turn on just about any reality TV show featuring Hollywood celebs and you’ll have your answer. 2. Fear doesn’t exist. A favorite quote of mine, roughly paraphrased, is fear stems from laziness and inactivity. Going out and taking on the world is how we crush those fears. Fear is nature’s way of saying, “get busy.” Fear doesn’t actually exist. It’s all in your head. So take on your fear. Make the best of the motivation. 3. Don’t take responsibility if you can’t change the outcome. When bad things happen, we tend to try to find ways around them. When we can’t, we simply apologize for them. But what if you couldn’t have changed the outcome no matter what? Should you still be sorry? Should you still take responsibility? No way! There’s no need to take responsibility for that which is out of your control. 4. This moment is all we ever have. Each moment in which we live is all we’re truly guaranteed by life. This exact moment. You can take some steps to plan for the future, but don’t obsess over it. Don’t aggrandize some distant point where you’ll be happy. Find ways to be happy immediately. 5. There’s always something to be thankful for. No matter how bad things get, there are always things we can be grateful for. I’m not going to sit here and be a bright sider for you, but just remind yourself of the good now and then. It’ll help get you through the tough times. “That which does not kill us makes us stronger.” – Friedrich Nietzsche
