LOS ANGELES (AP) — The longtime home of Johnny Mathis in the Hollywood Hills was damaged in a fire on Monday.
The 80-year-old singer had just flown back to Los Angeles to learn that his home of 56 years caught fire.
He told reporters the blaze caused extensive damage and that only a few mementos were spared.
"I'm OK, nobody got hurt -- that's always important. We can always replace things," Mathis said.
Brian Humphrey, a spokesman for the city's fire department, said a vegetation fire spread to the mansion.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
Mathis is known for such hit songs as "Chances Are," ''It's Not for Me to Say" and "Too Much, Too Little, Too Late."
He had launched a tour this year to celebrate his six decades in the music industry. According to his website, Mathis performed in Cleveland on Sunday.
